FFBadge (2)

Each Thursday, Annie of McGuffy’s Reader and Ellen of 15andmeowing provide four fill-in statements, and on Friday we post our answers and join their  link-up to share our responses.

The fill-ins for this week are:

1. Before you             , you need to                      .

2. After                                    .

3. Winter                         .

4. Spring                          .

Here are my responses:

1. Before you respond to criticism, you need to release any frustration or anger you are feeling, and then try to respond kindly, realizing that their remarks are more of a reflection of them than you.

2. After sixty your perspective on life changes. You think more about your own mortality, and you begin to realize what is really important to you… and what isn’t worth the time or energy.

3. Winter is a time for rest and reflection, and snuggling in.

4. Spring is a time of hope and renewal for all life, including our own, a time to move forward.

FFBadge (2)

Each Thursday, Annie of McGuffy’s Reader and Ellen of 15andmeowing provide four fill-in statements, and on Friday we post our answers and join their  link-up to share our responses.

The fill-ins for this week are:

1. My favorite Dr. Seuss book is                       .

2. The most interesting person I have ever met is                       .

3. Besides books by Dr. Seuss, my favourite book as a child was                      .

4. Lately, I have been working on                         .

Here are my responses:

1. My favorite Dr. Seuss book is now “Oh, The Places You’ll Go!” but when I was young my favorite was “Green Eggs and Ham”.

2. The most interesting person I have ever met is my husband Papa Bear because he has experienced many very difficult times in life, yet he hasn’t let that make him angry or bitter. He rarely complains and doesn’t feel sorry for himself or seek sympathy. He is intelligent, kind, compassionate, funny, and hard-working. He also has more integrity than any other person I know.

3. Besides books by Dr. Seuss, my favourite book as a child was a book called “Children of Other Lands”, a collection of stories about the lives of children in other countries. It was given to my sisters and me by my aunt who had taken a trip around the world. That book ignited my desire to learn about other places and cultures which continues to this day.

4. Lately, I have been working on my priorities and trying to better organize my time so that I have more time to do the things I most enjoy.

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week 94

FFBadge (2)

Each Thursday, Annie of McGuffy’s Reader and Ellen of 15andmeowing provide four fill-in statements, and on Friday we post our answers and join their  link-up to share our responses.

The fill-ins for this week are:

1. My favorite president is                       because                      .

2. This weekend, I have plans to                        .

3. I                   my                     .

4. I believe                         .

Here are my responses:

1. My favorite president is Abraham Lincoln because he was truly a man of the people, who showed great wisdom, leadership, and perseverance in very difficult times. He conducted both his public life and his personal life with integrity.

2. This weekend, I have plans to attend a play at the Globe Theater at our local college. They will be doing a performance of The Miracle Worker about Helen Keller.  I haven’t been to a play in a long, long time. Papa Bear enjoys plays as much as I do.

3. I love my new writing table that I found on Let Go and bought for $20 this week. It is long and narrow and fits perfectly in my writing room. The long part is necessary to accommodate a cushion at both ends for furkids who like to keep me company while I write. Today Tiggy and Gracie are here beside me.

Until now I had been using a small desk that my mother had made for me when I was sixteen years old. That almost qualifies it as an antique! 🙂 I am going to refinish it and use it as my sewing machine table, and maybe start a sewing project, something I haven’t done in a long time.

4. I believe that learning to be kind to one another, and to discuss things calmly with an open mind, could solve most of the world’s problems.

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week 93

FFBadge (2)

Each Thursday, Annie of McGuffy’s Reader and Ellen of 15andmeowing provide four fill-in statements, and on Friday we post our answers and join their  link-up to share our responses.

The Fill-ins for Week 93 are:

1. My Chinese zodiac animal is                     .

2. My zodiac sign is                   .

3. Income tax season                   .

4. In hindsight,                         .

Here are my responses:

1. My Chinese zodiac animal is a wood horse.  The characteristics of a wood horse are supposed to be “irritable and sentimental, with an abundant imagination and insightful analysis of issues.”  I guess that fits me pretty well.

2. My zodiac sign is Aquarius.  The characteristics of Aquarius are supposedly “truthfulness, just, curiosity, affectionate personality, frank and imaginative. Also, unpredictable, detachment, tendency to go off-track, and inefficiency.” I am a cookie-cutter Aquarian, this description fits me to a T.  I have yet to meet an Aquarian that I couldn’t relate to.

3. Income tax season wasn’t as bad as we anticipated this year. We were blessed with enough of a refund to be able to pay some bills, and we are happy about that. Our refund arrived yesterday…. and it was gone by bedtime.  Such is life.

4. In hindsight, there are many things I wish I would have done differently in my life, but I learned a lot from each of those decisions, so in the end it’s all good! 🙂

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week 91

FFBadge (2)Each Thursday, Annie of McGuffy’s Reader and Ellen of 15andmeowing provide four fill-in statements, and on Friday we post our answers and join their  link-up to share our responses.

The Fill-ins for Week 91 are:

1. Trust                            .

2. I would protest                               .

3. I have                       since                        .

4. Right now, I                     .

Here are my responses:

1. Trust is fragile, like glass. Once shattered, it might be possible to repair it with time and effort, but it will never be quite the same. I think most of us have had our trust betrayed at one time or another, but we still find the courage to trust again; we just learn to be more careful about who we place our trust in.

2. I would protest important issues that have a direct bearing on the quality of life, not only for myself but for others, especially for people and animals who are at the mercy of those in control. However, I am not one to protest every single issue that upsets me, I think that becomes a very negative way to live, always angry, and it dilutes your effectiveness if you try to focus on to many issues at once. Look for ways to protest that can actually make a difference, not just make noise. Be part of the solution!

3. I have been retired  since July of 2016 when the law firm I was employed by decided to close the branch where I worked. It has had a big impact on our lives, both postive and negative, but overall it’s been a good thing.

4. Right now, have so many things I need to do and want to do that I hardly know where to start. That seems to be the story of my life. I don’t understand the concept of boredom, there is always something to do… or we can learn to enjoy doing nothing at all for a bit, which is nice too!

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week 90

Each Thursday, Annie of McGuffy’s Reader and  Ellen of 15andmeowing provide four fill-in statements, and on Friday we post our answers and join their link-up to share our responses.

The Fill-ins for Week 90 are:

1.The flu shot                    .

2. I think everyone should take _________ daily.

3. I (almost) always                   , because                      .

4. I (almost) never                       because                         .

Here are my responses:

1.The flu shot never seems to include the strain I manage to come in contact with.

2. I think everyone should take time to contemplate what they are thankful for daily.

3. I (almost) always try to leave positive comments on Facebook and blogs, because I think encouragement is something we could all use more of. I also consider myself to be a guest on their page, and I try to conduct myself like one.

4. I (almost) never carry grudges because they are like a cancer that grows in your heart. I get mad, sometimes I lose my cool, then I get over it and move on.

Friendly Fill-ins: Week 89

Each Thursday, Annie of McGuffy’s Reader and  Ellen of 15andmeowing provide Friendly Fill-In statements, and on Friday we post our answers on their link-up to share our responses.  Here are mine…

Week 89:

  1.  I have never been able to understand how people can be intentionally cruel or unkind.
  2.  I wish I could still  accomplish all the things in a day that I could at 40.
  3.  Curled up with a warm blanket next to Papa Bear and a cat, or two, or three, is my ideal winter night. Adding a fireplace would make it even nicer.
  4.  In my fantasy life, I would live near the ocean and operate a no-kill cat sanctuary.
